Surpassing the technique and skill required in calligraphy, Kashin Senoo sends us into a very individual space that has pursued tradition and the contemporary at the same time. From traditional expression to pure graphism, we are charmed through a peremptory energy into a pictorial expression that transcends the meaning or sense of the characters.
The lines that have completely fulfilled the work unite the camaieu and graphism, and produce a powerful image. Senoo creates an original world there. The lines and movement are filled with conviction, power overflows from inside, and they are buried under dreams and deep emotions. Senoo has acquired a traditional technique and, while everyone indeed holds uncertainties inside, she is also novel, intelligent, and equipped with emotional sensitivity. Avoiding the safe and secure road, she presents a world with almost perfect beauty and, before our very eyes, opens the way to imagination and symbols.
From the perspective of the West, Kashin Senoo’s work is something that could also be considered at times to exist extremely close to abstract paintings, and we can see in it a brilliant process that breathes in perfect time with contemporary art. And an attractive discovery is born there.

Is her world abstract not?
I have known Kashin Senoo for two years now and we have spent several valuable times together as artists. Her writing is prefect and it contains all of the techniques of skilled calligraphy. A born artist, and as you can observe by looking at her many newly invented works, Senoo is likely driven by the desire to blend technique, creativity, and spontaneity. The works introduced here prove that. Senoo is now successfully uniting calligraphy and painting with an aggressive vigor, and I am very glad for that, and I even marvel at it. If she simply used the same technique as that contained in her current calligraphy, she would surely be able to continue walking unopposed down the road of pure, traditional Japanese calligraphy. And yet, what kind of mysterious power is it that acts upon her and drivers this artist away from that traditional world to a different écriture, a so-called “style of painting”? Senoo has made her decision and has already begun presenting a new world to us. She is once again in search of what is truly “her”. A genuine artist who offers love, dreams, and the power of implementation to those who view her work; that is Kashin Senoo.

Calligraphy is a world of expression that has been carried on since long ago, with Gothic fonts flowering in the West and original Arabian calligraphy flowering in Arabia. The calligraphy of Japan is an expression of emotions, perpetuating a tradition that blows life into Japan and conveying that to us.
Up to now, I have had the chance to talk with Kashin Senoo on countless occasions about joyous things. Though I have already mentioned it during those opportunities, Senoo doesn’t stop with the conventional from; she is one of those artists who is continually researching new compositions and styles of expression, etc., and she delivers an intense impression upon the viewer. Her creative pursuit advances an allegorical, intense flow, and imbues each moment with a unique and lyrical concept. In “Large Flower”, one of her latest works that has impressed me, we can say that something is expressed that exceeds my concept of calligraphy. Her desire of wanting to add intense color to the lines, the result of compiling the precision of her technique therein, and an expansion to the field of pictorial art; these are what make Kashin Senoo a“painter”.
